Country Group: South and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam)
This is a very old and extremely large Thai terracotta Buddha plaque. It was collected 35 years ago by a man who was living in SE Asia and who worked for Air America (i.e. the CIA). I recently bought a large part of his estate, which included several early rain drums, many bronze statues, early ceramics, and several other wonderful items. My guess on age is 18/19thC. It is one of the largest plaques of this type I have encountered. The collection had two of these plaques in it, which were almost surely collected together. The other one (in clearance) has the head re-attached. 7.75" tall, 5 1/8" wide, 1 1/8" deep.
