Very special Korean Bronze of a Bodhisattva. One of the best in my entire collection. See Sotheby's "The Art of the Buddha", September 22, 2004; held in New York- Lot 60- for an almost identical (but slightly lesser) example. This face is far more striking (and much less worn). The estimate on the Sotheby's example was 10 to 15 thousand 13 years ago before auction premiums. If you can get a copy of that auction catalogue you will see that this piece has a significantly better (and less worn) face. In that catalogue they say that this type is extremely rare for early Korean sculpture in the way the hip sways out, as Korean sculpture from the earliest periods is almost always straight up and down in posture. Measures 6 and 3/8 inches tall.
