Superb large antique Javanese bronze Buddha. It was purchased by the previous owner from a reputable Australian auction house, likely in the 13th century. I believe it is quite old, but not that early. It looks to be 19th century or earlier- the bottom edge is smooth glass, with high points that are worn with time. Significant for its type at 13 inches tall by 8 inches wide at the base. There is one original flaw in the lap behind the robe- otherwise, it is in outstanding condition. Note the finesse in the fingers and a toes-a a sign of a quality sculpture, Wonderful face, and great overall feel to this unique bronze. Much more heavily cast than the 20th-century emulations and tourist pieces. Unique Mudra.
