Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
Masterpiece!- Pre-10th C "Buddha as a Prince" from area north of India, and likely dating from somewhere between the 5th and 10th centuries, from a small kingdom Himalayan Kingdom that no longer exists. Note the INCREDIBLE quality and detail- Look closely at the TINY extremely early Ganesh figures on base- they are remarkable, as are the equally diminutive rams, Urns, and other decorative elements. The figure itself, with intricate flowing robes and hair, animated face, and very human posture, is truly "museum worthy". Only flaws are some corrosion and minor loss due to extreme age (as seen in photos) and that the figure has begun to "sink into the base to to the very soft silver alloy and 1000+ years of gravity,. He could use an additional base to "lift" up his base to make the figure stand completely straight. Size is amazingly small at only 4 1/2 inches tall x 3 inches across x 3 inches deep. No one I've shown him to has even seen another like him. From an estate collection.
