7th to 9th century tang dynasty Buddhist attendant cast in bronze. This is a remarkably sophisticated and Beautiful bronze sculpture from one of the highpoints in Chinese sculpture. It is an advanced example which shows sophisticated sculpting, casting, and finishing knowledge and ability to a very high-level. It is extremely heavy, almost to the point where it may be solid cast. As can be seen from the photos, it has remains of original lacquer and gilding. It has a remarkable face that shows tremendous equanimity and joy. The flow of the robes simultaneously gives a seamless feeling of flow and motion. There is surface loss from over 1000 years of wear, but it is complete, and is in overall good condition for such an early piece. Spend time looking at the photos.
