A Japanese PAIR of the Baby Buddha taking his first steps pointing at the heaven and earth in the form of Altar cantle holders ( I think). They look to be certainly pre-Meiji- these are outside my area of expertise- the previous owner said Edo or earlier, so I’ll go with that. They are each quite different- left and right handed, different faces, etc. Interestingly, several people have commented on them (when they are together) looking like a pair of Disco Boys- slightly irreverent, but I understand what they mean. They stand 8.75 and 8.5 inches tall. Both show significant wear. No one I’ve shown them to has seen any others like them.
