Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
18/19th Mongolian Buddhist Protective Deity- Large, Fierce, Animated, Powerful. Both figure and horse have expressive faces, rearing up to scare away the things that get in our way of seeing clearly. This is one of the most popular and beloved deities in Mongolia- she (yes, this is a she) is typically shown (as here) sitting on a human skin atop her horse, walking through a sea of blood. This may be the largest sculpture of this figure I have ever seen in person. Typically, the bronzes of this type are 4 to 6 inches tall, with the large ones being 7 or 8 inches tall. This is a true temple-size piece. Significant wear from ritual use, but no damage or loss (even the head hanging on a loop around the horse's neck is still in place). Large size( 14"H x 10.25"W x 5.5"D ) - 13.6lbs / 6.170kg . Look at the faces of the severed heads; each is expressive in a way you do not see on the sculptures made in the 20th century. Nearly perfect condition other than expectable where. The tiny head around the neck has broken loose but will be provided. This piece has faced my front door protecting it for more than 25 years. It is time to find her a new home.
