Extremely early Japanese Jizo or Monk from a collection which included other extremely early Japanese pieces. This is outside my area of expertise, so I cannot date with accuracy, but I can tell you that this is an ancient statue. Small uncut stone/gem in his forehead looks extremely old. Some traces of original lacquer. Superb patina. Fantastic spiritual feel to this old fellow.
