18/19 century starving or fasting Buddha. Famous for the masterful examples in stone from the Gandharan Kingdom in the Himalayas, they have only rarely been done in the 1500 years since. I've seen examples from Thailand, Burma, and China, though I'm sure there are others from other countries.
This one is very special in the abstracted way in which the bones are showing through his "skin". Has has a much more friendly face than many of the others I've seen. The piece is also very well cast unfinished, and it has a soft chocolate brown patina-the type that only comes with years of devotion( 6.5"H x 4.25"W x 4"D ) - ( Knees 4" ) 2.23lbs//1.010kg
