Exceptional and impressively large Tibetan or Chinese bronze Buddha, notable for its extraordinary level of detail and powerful spiritual presence. At first glance it appears understated, but the beauty of the face immediately draws attention—quiet, serene, and deeply expressive. A closer inspection reveals a remarkable amount of finely executed workmanship throughout the sculpture.
Within the robe’s patterned squares are incised astrological motifs, echoing those found on revered 15th Century examples. The crispness of the casting, the refined modeling, and the subtle spiritual energy all attest to the extraordinary quality of this piece. It is extremely heavy—well over 50 pounds, with a packed shipping weight of roughly 70 pounds.
The base, which appears to have been consecrated until recently, shows evidence of being pried open in one section. Fragrant herbal remnants—likely rosemary or similar ritual herbs—still emerge from a small gap on the underside. This can easily be resealed by the next owner, though the piece has been left undisturbed aside from gently tightening the base plate.
Wear patterns appear authentic, with slightly heavier handling wear on the right side—consistent with right-handed devotional use. Taken together with the casting style and overall presence, the sculpture likely dates to the 19th–20th Century, created to honor and emulate the great 15th Century masters rather than to deceive.
