18th Century Chinese bronze Buddha in Samadi Mudra, with a pleasing smile and calm overall countenance. What sets this Buddha apart is the remarkable double base, which is finely cast in copper, repossessed, and consecrated with a copper plate that was painted red. In the middle of each lotus pedal is a raised circle./dot that is more worn than the rest of the base, as it is the highest point. I’ve never seen a base like this on any statue. Even more interestingly, there is a gilded square in the middle of his chest, which is possibly connected to the base and maybe the way the base is attached to the statue. This is just a guess of mine, as I’m unsure how the two are connected. A fascinating Buddha. ( 5.75"H x 3.75"W x 3"D ) - 415g
