Beautiful and substantial 15th Century Thai bronze Buddha, measuring 16.25 inches in total height and weighing approximately 10 lbs. Initially I believed this example to be later, but close inspection of the patina, wear patterns, casting characteristics, underside, and overall refinement strongly indicate that it is a true period piece.
An exceptional example of its type, with the base cast separately, as is correct for early Thai bronzes. The face is especially captivating—warm, expressive, and unusually full of personality. It feels as though the Buddha looks directly back at the viewer, radiating both humor and serenity.
Though listed at 16.25 inches, the figure feels even larger in person due to its broad proportions, solid modeling, and the impressive width of its base. A rare, character-rich bronze and a personal favorite.
