Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
This is a high quality 18thC Tibetan roundel or reliquary out of an old Northwest estate. It looks to be constructed of gilded copper. It is quite large at almost 13 inches across. It is beautiful on both sides. It is substantial in weight. It looks to have been made to hold sacred remains or relics. I do not hear anything moving around inside, although I have not opened it up. In all my years of collecting I've had only one other related piece (a hanging piece which was made to contain relics or remains) - that one was not nearly as refined, and was gilded. It has expectable wear and some loss of gilding from centuries of cleaning, but is in remarkably good condition otherwise. ( 13"H x 1.75"W ) - 4.5lbs.
