5-6thC Thailand/Laos/Cambodia/Burma Mon Style Standing Bronze Buddha. Extremely rare to find in such a large size (the full figure would have stood a good 18+ inches tall, which was enormous for this very early period). Likely one of the largest bronze Buddhas on the open market from this very early period. Wonderfully expressive face. Strong burial patina. It is likely from the area currently covered by Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, or Burma, as this was made before the modern states existed. It is not inexpensive, and very few examples of this size exist in private hands. Solid cast and heavy for his size. This is among the earliest SE Asian bronze sculptures made. In my collection, 30 years. Purchased in the 1990s from an advanced collection of early SE Asian bronze sculptures. Starting at less than what I paid for him three decades ago. ( 13"H x 3.75"W x 1.5"D ) - 4.76lbs, Base: ( 4.25"H x 3.75"W ) 490g. Included custom museum-style base.
