Country Group:
Bronze and ancient glass Buddhist Stupa, possibly in the style of Gandara. The sections stack loosely together. I’ve never seen another of this type other than this one, a group of four slightly lesser ones that were reportedly found, along with a group of 8 simpler examples that were mostly glass and one larger bronze one. The quality of all of the pieces is very good. The tiny Buddha on this one is well-sculpted (though the face is obscured), and the small birds are all well-sculpted, cast, and finished. I’m unsure as to the dating or origin of these. They were reportedly found in a cave in or near Afghanistan many years ago. I Purchased them from a collector/seller who does not usually collect Buddhist items. Look closely at the photos ( 6.5"H x 3.5"W x 3.5"D ) - 415g.
