18th/19th century or earlier Tibetan altar table. I have had a number of altar tables Available through my auctions or on my website for many years, but I've never had one of this type before. My understanding is that this type is earlier, and it is probably earlier than the 18th or 19th century. Still, I'm trying to be more conservative in my dating when posting items in areas I don't have as much expertise. The scrollwork in the legs looks to be a complicated construction method, But it yields a magnificent altar table.Carving in the front panel is wonderful. Please look closely at the photos. It's also in great condition except for one issue. It has been repainted sometime in the 20th century. I don't believe it was just done, and I'm not sure it was done in the West to sell. Fortunately, unlike many Restorations, it looks great and does not ruin the beauty. The other fortunate thing is that, as you can see in the photos, They did not touch most of the table but left the original or a very early paint intact. It is excellent and stable. It has no significant repairs other than the painting I just described. It does not fold, which is one of the reasons it is so stable. It does have a bit of the smell of Tibet that will never come out of it. Only notice it when it comes out of the box for the first couple of days, and then it will dissipate, and you won't even notice. It's an elegant piece, as pretty as you will find.
