Country Group: South and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam) Inventory
A superb example of the rare sculptural form associated with Northern Thailand between the 14th and 16th Centuries, this Buddha harmoniously blends stylistic influences from both Sukhothai and Chiang Saen traditions—drawing, in my view, the finest qualities from each. The figure presents an exquisite face, elegant proportions, and a beautifully matured patina, all of which attest to its quality and age.
In over 35 years of collecting, this is one of the two finest examples of this specific type that I have encountered. Its presence is both serene and commanding, making it a standout piece within any serious collection. This Buddha has long been a personal favorite, valued for its refined artistry and its exceptional state of preservation.
