Bid is for a pair of exceptionally rare early Burmese Mon-style Buddhas, dating approximately to the 10th–13th Century. A matched pair of this age and type is extraordinarily uncommon—possibly unique. Precise dating is difficult due to the scarcity of comparable examples in published references; however, their form, casting, and surface characteristics strongly suggest a period contemporary with the early Pagan Empire, though originating from a different kingdom within ancient Burma.

To encounter one Buddha of this form, in this size, with such complete preservation and expressive modeling, would already be noteworthy. To find a matched pair that has remained together for nearly a millennium is truly remarkable. For most of that time, they were almost certainly enshrined within a stupa or protected chamber, which helped preserve their delicate features. Small remaining patches of original gilding are still visible.

These pieces have been part of my personal collection for over 25 years, acquired from a three-generation family collection specializing in early Southeast Asian bronze sculpture.
