Superb large 13thC or later Javanese bronze Buddha. The previous owner purchased it from a reputable Australian auction house. They dated it to the 13th century- possibly later, but definitely has significant age. It has the animated, charismatic quality that great Buddhas possess. The bottom edge looks correct- smooth as glass, with high points worn with time. It is extremely large and in exceptional condition for its type. There is an original casting flaw in the lap behind the robe. It is in outstanding condition, with an excellent patina. Note the finesse in the fingers and toes, a sign of a quality sculpture. It has a wonderful face and a great overall feel. Unique Mudra.(12.25"H x 8"W x 7.5"D) - 9.12lbs
