Country Group: China, Japan and Korea
A special antique Korean bronze trio—a Bodhisattva, a Buddha, and a monk—likely 17th/18th Century. Sets of this type are exceptionally uncommon; I have only seen comparable groups in reference books. Each figure is finely modeled, well cast, and carefully finished, with a presence and charisma that set them apart. Truly museum- or publication-worthy.
The Bodhisattva stands 4" tall with a base footprint of 2.5" × 2" (without its detachable base). The Buddha stands 4.5" tall with a footprint of 2.25" × 2". The monk stands 3 5/8" tall with a footprint of 2 5/8" × 2".
The main wooden base measures 9.5" × 4", or 10.5" × 5" on its newly made custom platform by a skilled base maker. Each figure has a small custom wood insert beneath it, allowing the pieces to tilt slightly backward so the faces can be viewed more fully. A rare and elegant ensemble with remarkable charm and strong sculptural quality.
Overall dimensions:
4.25" H × 2.25" W × 2" D — 7.23 lbs
Base: 2" H × 9.5" W — 1.29 lbs
