Exceptional Korean Buddha, approaching 1,000 years old (possibly earlier). I cannot date it with complete certainty, but I believe it is likely 10th–13th Century, plus or minus a century. It is remarkably heavy for its size, and the base is filled with lead—it has the presence and gravitas of a true museum piece. I have searched extensively online and have been unable to find any comparable examples of this age and size currently for sale; if you are aware of any, I would be very interested to know. The arms and hands do not appear ever to have been separately made, but rather are conceived as folded within the robes.
