Country Group:
Occupied Japan Bronze Buddha—75 to 80 years old, very finely patinated and gilded to appear like a Kamakura or other early-period Japanese Buddha. The bottom has a plaque that describes its origin as being from occupied Japan in the early 1940s. This was a relatively short period after World War II when the United States Occupied Japan and oversaw the rebuilding of much of the country's infrastructure. Like this one, the products made during that time had to indicate that they were from Occupied Japan. I've never seen a small bronze Buddha from Japan from the First half of the 20th century that was so beautifully and skillfully executed. Take a look at the photos, and you'll see what I mean. It's a remarkable Little Buddha. ( 2"H x 2"W x 1.5"D ) - 80g.
