The Japanese Meiji or Taisho Buddha is finely cast and patinated. It is uncertain of the metal it is made of, as it is completely covered with a type of lacquer and gilding that makes it impossible to see the underlying alloy. Based on the weight and sound when you tap on it, it is not bronze. The level of detail the sculptor managed to create is impressive. Check out the photos, and you'll see what I mean. It may have lived much of its life in a shrine box to be in such good condition. Looks to be between 100 and 150 years old. ( 7.75"H x 6"W x 6"D ) - 2.95 lbs.
