Country Group: South and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam)
Large 18/19thC wooden Burmese Shan Buddha in exceptional condition. Typically this type has considerable wear, but this one is out of an old US estate and has been in America for a long time. He is an excellent size at 18.5 inches tall (he would be 21 inches tall if he still had his separately carved finial) by 11.5 inches wide by 6.5 inches deep. His condition ( is so good that you only start to see his true age when you look at the bottom and niche on the back of the base. The condition is in part due to the excellent quality of the gilding and lacquer, and the fact that he his carved out of one (extremely heavy) piece of teak. If you are looking for a Buddha of this style, it will be hard to find one of this size and condition for remotely close to this price.
