Rare and wonderful early Buddha, possibly from Java or a related culture on another island in the south seas. Based on the face and the casting, it appears to be pre-10th century, though because it is not part of a typical stylistic school, it could be later. It is also possible that it is related to the ancient Kingdom
Srivajaya, which stretched across the coast of many southeast Asian countries and went all the way to Indonesia, and which went on for many centuries, plus or minus 1000 years ago. Despite it’s’ tribal nature, it is beautifully cast and sculpted. A great piece of spiritual art. ( 4.5" H x 2.25" W x 2.25"D ) - 370g.
