19th to the beginning of the 20th century northern Thai Buddha. Cast in the traditional way. After close examination, I believe it is an authentic northern Thai Buddha, made in their traditional way in the traditional style. I believe it was cast somewhere in the 19th century or beginning of the 20th century. It is quite large substantial at ( 18.5"H x 14"W x 8.25"D ) - it looks to have been originally gilded, and has traces of gilding throughout. It is smoother and rubbed more on the high points on both the figure, and on the underside where the bottom would have made contact with the ground. The underside, which is an important place to look in authenticating a Buddha of this type, looks like it was cast correctly, with a clay core. In this case, because of the size, the core was removed to reduce the weight. If it were not for this, it would weigh close to twice the 20 pounds that it weighs now.
