18/19th century Japanese, master of tea. I’ve not seen another like this before. Masterfully sculpted out of brown pottery or other clay/ceramic like material, this sculpture was created by someone who was in complete control of their art form. The lines are strong and confident, and the gaze from the eyes of the figure are powerful and penetrating. He almost seems alive. Spent time looking at the photos and you will see what I mean.
