18/19 century Tibetan bronze Bodhisattva-exquisite and very uncommon example. The type of locker and the style of sculpting in casting are distinctive and stand out from almost all other Tibetan sculpture I’ve seen, except for a very small number of related examples. I’m guessing it’s from a small regional area that create its own expression this glorious art. The quality of the sculpting and casting are outstanding. Look closely at the ends of the robes and you will see how deep and clean the lines are, and how they carry the energy and liveliness of the figure. The rough lacquer is very different than the usual types used. At first, I thought it might have been a replacement, though closer examination suggests that it might be original. It is also possible that most of it is original and that a few areas have been touched up. At first, I thought it was early 20th century, but after spending time with it, my estimate of the age became earlier by a century, so I now believe it is late 18th early 19th century, though it could be a little later. This piece has real charisma. (5.5”H x 3.5"W x 2.25"D ) - 505g.
