Early style standing Chinese bronze Buddha. The high level of detail in the robes and halo appear to be created by carving out the detail rather than casting it into the metal. This is a very uncommon and quite time consuming way of creating sculpture like this. The style is archaic and are extremely early, and I do believe this is a period piece. At first I had thought this was later as it is lightweight and because I had never seen anything like it before. The longer I spend time with it and experience the extraordinary quality and power it exudes, and more I believe it is absolutely of the period. It appears to be. Note how the robes flow flow-I've never seen robes that were like this before the carving of the back plate is magnificently rendered. The face, while experiencing significant oxidation from age, continues to exude a remarkable sensitivity and awareness. I continue to research this piece. I'm happy for any input.
