Early rare Korean bronze Buddha. Beautifully wax cast with exceptional finesse and personality. Appears to be in the range of 1000 years old ( 7 and 1/16 H not including the post x 2.5"W x 2"D ) - stands 10 inches tall, including its wood base .1.57lbs. Large for its type. Look into the open back and you can see some of how it was originally cast, starting with a bronze rod. The details of the piece are extremely clear as they seem to have been added in a second wax casting./firing, rather than being part of a single cast/fired statue. Much more complex and animated than the more common smaller early bronze, Korean Buddhas that you see in the marketplace which are usually 3 to 4 inches tall. This is the first piece of its type I?ve come across in 30 years of searching. Losses to the fine bits of detail that were added as part of the second casting as seen in the photos, but the actual figure itself is relatively intact with only the loss of a few partial fingers. No repairs. Appropriate wear for its age. Please spend a time with the photos.
