19th/20th century Thousand Arm Bodhisattva/Buddha of Compassion. Created in a number of parts, this sculpture was primarily done in copper using a repousse technique. I have seen a number of these in varying sizes and of different qualities and of different ages over the past 30+ years. This is the best one I have ever seen. That may even be including the ones I’ve seen in museums and high-end auction catalogs. Many of those were older or larger or more rare because their history, but this one is sculpted to an incredibly high level all the way through. I don’t know if there are actually 1000 arms (almost surely not that many), but every one is meticulously sculpted with tremendous care and with attention to meticulous detail.. Beyond that, all of the faces, including the smallest ones and the the fierce deity are all given a high level of attention and care. Very often the central figure/face is given great care and focus, but the lesser faces and the small hands and arms that are not easily seen are done in a more fugitive way. Spend time with the photos of this piece and you will see that every part of this rather large sculpture is sculpted carefully, and with great artistry and finesse. Beyond that it has a spiritual quality that radiates, especially from the central face.. Probably approaching 100 years old, based on the patina and the level of where, though it may be younger or slightly older. Period with a piece like this it’s not about the age as the skill and artistry of the maker, and the care that they put into every aspect of the piece is what shines brightly and which comes together to create this very special religious icon. Period a concept part into several pieces as you can see in the photos. No damage loss or repairs that I can see, only expectable wear from use and time. I purchased it from a collector who purchased it at an estate auction in germinate several years ago,. Very good size at 18.5"H x 14"W x 5.5"D . Weighs 13.63lbs
