This rare and evocative Burmese bronze Buddha dates to the 13th–14th century or possibly earlier and is attributed to the Arakan region, with the stylistic possibility of Mon influence. Small in scale yet powerful in presence, the figure is seated in bhūmisparśa mudra, the gesture of calling the earth to witness, a posture closely associated with early Southeast Asian Buddhist traditions. The face is especially compelling, with softly modeled features, a gentle smile, and a quiet inward focus that speaks strongly of early regional craftsmanship.

The casting is confident and economical, emphasizing form and expression over excess ornamentation. The robe falls naturally across the torso, and the proportions of the body retain an archaic simplicity that supports an early dating. The openwork base is an unusual and appealing feature, adding both visual interest and further evidence of its early origin. Surface wear is consistent with age and devotional handling, contributing to a warm, honest patina without obscuring key details.

While Arakan attribution is most likely, certain stylistic elements suggest a possible Mon origin or an even earlier transitional phase, making this an object worthy of further scholarly research. Regardless of precise classification, this Buddha represents a scarce and desirable early Southeast Asian type, distinguished by its expressive face, rarity, and unmistakable sense of antiquity.
