This rare Burmese bronze Buddha dates to the transitional period between the Post-Pagan era and the early Ava period, circa the 13th to 14th century, a time during which comparatively few bronze Buddhas were produced. Sculptures of this quality and size from this moment in Burmese history are especially uncommon. The figure displays a calm, gentle presence, with a softly modeled face that conveys serenity and quiet compassion, hallmarks of the finest Burmese devotional bronzes.

The construction of the sculpture reflects an early and highly respected Burmese casting technique. The head was solid-cast separately and then attached to the body during the casting process, a method commonly used in early Burmese bronzes to achieve greater refinement in facial expression. This technique is clearly evident here and contributes to the sensitivity and balance of the overall form. The figure is seated in a composed posture on a tiered base that bears an inscribed band, further enhancing its historical and devotional significance.

The surface retains a beautiful, smooth chocolate-brown patina that has developed naturally over time. Notably, this patina is not the result of burial but of age and handling, lending the bronze a warm, even tone and a quiet elegance. The modeling of the torso and hands is restrained yet confident, and the overall proportions are harmonious and well resolved.

Mounted on a custom stand for stable display, this sculpture stands as an important and evocative example of early Ava-period Burmese bronze casting. It is a special and compelling work, well suited to an advanced collection of Southeast Asian Buddhist art or early Burmese sculpture.

The Buddha measures approximately 7.75 inches in height, 4 inches in width, and 2.75 inches in depth.
