This highly uncommon Cambodian bronze figure belongs to the pre-Khmer period and represents an exceptionally early and evocative example of Southeast Asian devotional sculpture. Kneeling in a posture of reverence, the figure conveys deep concentration and quiet humility through its simplified form and inward-focused presence. The face is particularly compelling, marked by a serene and gentle expression, with a subtle asymmetry that gives the impression of a cheek slightly puffed, almost as if holding betel nut, lending the sculpture a strikingly human and intimate quality.

The solid cast construction and restrained modeling point to an early date, and comparison with other known pre-Khmer bronzes suggests a plausible range as early as the 7th or 8th century and no later than the 10th or 11th century. The surface displays a naturally developed patina with areas of encrustation and wear consistent with age, reinforcing the sculpture’s authenticity and archaeological character. The simplicity of the form allows the emotional and spiritual content of the figure to take precedence over ornamentation.

Despite its small scale, this bronze possesses a powerful presence and an unusual sense of stillness. Figures of this type from such an early period are extremely rare, and the combination of age, expression, and posture makes this a truly special piece. It is well suited for collectors of early Cambodian art, pre-Khmer material, or rare devotional bronzes with strong individuality.

The figure measures approximately 3 inches in height, 1.25 inches in width, and 1.5 inches in depth, and is presented on a simple display base.
