This antique pottery figure represents Li Jing, the legendary guardian figure traditionally depicted carrying a pagoda imbued with magical power. Likely of Chinese or Tibetan origin and possibly quite early, the sculpture displays strong character and careful craftsmanship, particularly in the finely detailed treatment of the robes. The figure’s posture and attributes are rendered with confidence, while the expressive and compelling face gives the piece a distinctive presence.

Traces of blue and white polychrome remain visible and are believed to be original, adding depth and historical interest to the surface. The pottery shows expected age-related wear, including losses and cracks to the base, yet importantly there are no repairs. Overall condition remains very good for a piece of this type and age, with the form intact and the detailing well preserved.

Of particular note are the remains of a Tibetan inscription visible along the lower edge of the back of the base, suggesting religious or cultural significance and reinforcing the object’s historical context. Mounted on a custom stand, the figure presents well for display while maintaining its sculptural integrity. This is a highly engaging piece for collectors of Chinese or Tibetan art, mythological figures, or early ceramic devotional objects.

The sculpture measures approximately 5 inches in height, 3.5 inches in width, and 2.75 inches in depth, and is presented on a custom stand.
