This finely cast 17th to 18th century Cambodian Buddha is a very good example of an uncommon devotional form rendered in solid silver. Though only 1.75 inches tall, the figure has a surprising weight and presence due to the solid casting, giving it a compact yet substantial feel in the hand.

The most striking feature is the expressive face, full of personality and warmth, which sets this piece apart from more standard examples. The modeling is confident and direct, with clean robe lines and a balanced seated posture that reflects the quiet dignity typical of early Cambodian devotional sculpture.

Originally, this figure would have been fitted into a separately cast base, traditionally made from a lead bronze alloy, a feature seen on related examples from the period. The absence of the base does not detract from the integrity of the sculpture, which stands beautifully as a complete work in its own right.

Small solid silver Buddhas of this age and quality are increasingly difficult to find, especially with such character and presence in the face. A rare and appealing miniature from the early Cambodian silver casting tradition.
