19th to early 20th century Mongolian Buddhist paintings/training cards for teaching monks and others about different aspects of Buddhist teachings. These have writing on the back along with a second sheet attached with additional Mongolian or Tibetan writing. This is an uncommon set in both subject and quality. Collected 40 years ago when Mongolia was opening to the west and it was possible to find sets like this. They are part of a group of Mongolian Buddhist Traing cards and small Thangkas I collected in the late 1980s and early 1990s as part of my personal collection. I had thought I had put my entire collection up for sale to the Buddha gallery website and into my recent auctions, but I recently discovered a group of more than 50 items that I had put away for safekeeping and then lost track of - they will now all go up for sale. The colors are bright and clean, which means these were probably locked away for much of their life as they are typically soiled and darkened by use and time.
