Country Group:
Early 20th century Mongolian Buddhist paintings of Monks holding implements in their hands, with small figures in each of the corners. There is writing on the back, which probably gives the name of who this figure represents. This is for three of a larger group, I’m not sure how many would’ve been in this set, but it was probably pretty large. Collected 40 years ago when Mongolia was opening to the west and it was possible to find sets like this. They were used to teach young monks about different aspects of Buddhism and Buddhist knowledge. They are part of a group of Mongolian Buddhist Training cards and small Thangkas I collected in the late 1980s and early 1990s as part of my personal collection. I had thought I had put my entire collection up for sale to the Buddha gallery website and into my recent auctions, but I recently discovered a group of more than 50 items that I had put away for safekeeping and then lost track of - they will now all go up for sale. (The price is for a group of 3. ( 3"H x 3.5"W )
