Exceptional 19th century Buddha. This is probably the nicest example of its type I’ve ever seen. There’s a remarkable precision to the implementation of the ornamentation. What I mean by this is that if you look at the design work, the sculptor who finished the surface was incredibly skilled and precise at placing the repeating design onto the surface of the bronze. It is carefully and carefully done as you see on the work done coming out of the Royal foundries that one sees from the great. Asian sculpture. Look closely at the photos of the close-ups and you will see what I mean on many of the 19th and 20th century examples the design work is nicely done, but it is not remotely as precise as what you see on this example. Sculpting is also gone to an extremely high standard look at the face and take the beauty.Arakan art is unique in that it is separated from the rest of Burma by a mountain range so it has developed over the centuries in relative isolation from the rest of the country. There is a lot of cross influence, but it has its own unique look and feel. You won’t find one nicer-especially such a large one in such fine condition. One of the wings, or stiff ribbons that sticks out might have some loss to it, but overall the condition is excellent. look at the photo with the ruler to get the height. ( 17"H x 13"W x 8.5"D ) 30 lbs
