This is an exceptional 17/18th century Sri Lankan standing bronze Buddha from the height of the Kandy empire. The vast majority were made in the later 18th century.. This one maybe a little earlier. The face is different and it has a few unique features such as the low wall built on the base that surrounds the feet and the thin posts that go down from the ears to the shoulders. The face is also a bit different than the typical 18 century example examples-it is remarkably beautiful and is the reason I bought this Buddha, even though the price was extremely high. It stood out as buddha that radiated loving kindness and compassion and joy in a way that few Buddhas managed to convey. I could not stop thinking about this face after first seeing it and kept coming back to it until I finally had to acquire it the surface is beginning to oxidize in some places, so it does not have a perfectly smooth surface. It looks like in another 200 years it will turn green. This is because it has not been cleaned and because the composition of the alloy is somewhat different than Sri Lankan Buddhas. The Buddha is perfectly made, but the base is slightly uneven, so it does not stand straight unless you put a small bit of something under one edge of the bottom to straighten it up. It’s easy to do it does not affect its stability or presentation. This type in this quality is highly sought after and is hard to find, and is never inexpensive . This Buddha one of the best of its type I have offered in my 30 years of selling. Please ask any questions, I’m happy to provide any additional detail details. ( 15"H x 4"W x 4"D ) 12 lbs
