19thC Tibetan or Tibeto-Chinese bronze Bodhisattva or Buddha. Beautifully sculpted example in a classic style. Nicely gilded and cast, this is a type that is highly prized by collectors and practitioners. There are many fakes of this style, but I believe this example is authentic and was created sometime during the 19th century. It has a beautiful face and captures the spiritual light that the best of this type manage to capture. It is very well finished and gilded. The only thing it is missing to bring the lofty prices of the best 18th century and earlier examples is the deep casting. I’ve been able to offer very few of this type recently, as they are in such high demand and they bring such strong prices. I was fortunate to be able to purchase this one out of an old collection as part of a group purchase for a reasonable price. It was reportedly in the last collection for almost 50 years, and was purchased in New York antique in the late 1970s.( 6.5"H x 4"W x 3"D ) - 1.88lbs
