19th century Nepalese or Tibetan bronze Figure. At first, I believe this was Nepalese, but the blue hair typically means it has spent time in devotion in Tibet shows nice ritual wear that only enhances its beauty. There are pair of (worn) elephants flanking a central figure on the base., and a pair of worn dragons on the back of the base. The quality of the casting and finishing work is especially good on this piece for this type-it is done with more care and precision than is usual. It had more detail at one time, much of which is worn away. The scrolling vines are beautifully done and carefully matched. They also are quite worn, but still Showing great care in their creation. It is a really good size at 9.25"H x 4.25"W x 2.5"D and it weighs- 1.83lbs including the integral Mandola. As with the rest of the sculpture, the design in the Mandola is carefully done so that the design is even and carefully applied. Even the way that it has worn is beautiful .This is a particularly attractive and charismatic figure. Note the expressiveness of the face and the hands and fingers. You rarely see such feeling carries through the fingers of a statue like this. He looks both in deep concentration and at the same time, relaxed and calm. I have over 1900 items in my home and yet I find myself coming back and looking at just a few of them over and over as they are the ones that affect me deeply. This is one of those pieces.
