Incredible Nepalese Bodhisattva- one of the most beautiful faces I’ve ever seen on a Tara. I'm not sure of age, but looks very old- My feeling is at least 17/18thC, as I’ve had 19thC examples of this type which were quite different. Cast in two parts at the waist- the two parts are separate. I have not re-attached them, because it is fascinating to be able to look inside the figure. The top fits in to the bottom firmly, and it could be attached permanently with little effort . It came out of a collection in a fabulous San Francisco penthouse. In the “archive” section on my website is a companion piece which came out of the same collection (which sold for significantly more than I my opening bid for this one). The larger than life 14th century Sukothai bronze head, also on my website, in my personal collection, is from the same estate. They were collected by a wealthy diplomat living in Asia in the 1960's. Ten inches tall by 8 inches wide, but the figure is much large than the dimensions convey as there is no base of any kind. It sits best with the right leg leaning off the edge of whatever it is sitting on. One of the most beautiful Nepalese sculptures I have ever had.
