This is a "Lotus Buddha" from Burma- a special type of Buddha which is typically kept in the home for protection, especially from fires. It is made from silver over a clay core. I purchased 2 related pieces several years ago from a collection which had a set of these- all of the others were damaged. I recently saw the collection again, and this one, which was the finest of all, must have been in hiding the first time I saw the group of them. He has a superb face, and a gentle, loving presence.
