The real thing- a very nice sized authentic Thai 18/19thC Thai walking Buddha. The vast majority of walking Buddhas you see on the market (and almost all of the ones you see on Ebay) are fake, as there were extremely few period pieces made in the 14/15thC, especially of good size. There was a revival in the 18/19thC, especially under Rama V (the King and I King) in the late 19thC. I believe that this one is earlier, and may be from the 18thC and be from the end of the Ayuthaya period. It is not finely cast, but it absolutely has the classic flowing form which makes this one of the most special forms of all Buddhas. There are what appear to be original traces of gilding in a few spots, and wear in the correct spots. The Buddha is re-attached to be base, which is not uncommon, as the Buddha is quite heavy, and he is leaning so far. I’ve seen related examples in which a metal post or screw was put in from the bottom-this would be a permanent fix, as I suspect he has separated from his base before, and likely will in the future, though he seems quite secure. I sell him with no guarantees in this one area. He is a full 16.25 inches tall, and is solid cast. Collected in the 1960's by the previous owner. If you want an attractive authentic walking Thai Bronze Buddha of good size, this is one of the few you will ever see at an affordable price.
