Wonderful bronze Laos Buddha in a unique altar. The Buddha is permanently in place- I do not know how long the two have been together, but they go together perfectly, and appear to be of the same period. They also have a similar style and patina, so they might have been together for 500 years. There is no way to tell for sure. They are either Lao or Northern Thai, and are 15th century or possibly a bit later. The Buddha is very high quality, with a superb face, wonderful patina, and great overall feel. The altar is unlike anything I have seen- large, smooth, and very heavy, with a multi-tiered base. I have kept small Buddhas on the lower tiers. The entire piece stands 14.5 inches tall by 14 inches wide by 8.5 inches deep. The Buddha is 5 inches tall. It weighs close to 24 pounds. I have shown it to many long time collectors and dealers of Southeast Asian Buddhist art, and no one has ever seen another like it.
