Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
This is an uncommon and very beautiful bronze Buddha Tibetan or Mongolia. It has something special about it which is hard to describe. I say that it is possibly from Mongolia due to the distinctive lacquer, uncommon alloy and casting technique which I have seen on other Buddhas which were identified as being from Mongolia. The entire piece was originally covered with lacquer. The base still has its original seal. Sits 2.75 inches tall. Spot on nose is original to casting. I've given a dating of 17th/18thC- the style if the base suggests a possibly earlier dating.
