Delightful folk style Thai Buddha made of stone. Hard to date with certainty, but almost certainly no later than 17/18th century. Fortunately he retains most of his original patina, with lacquer and gilding, which is very rare for ancient stone sculpture. Wonderful face on the small head- deep in meditation. Truly one of a kind. The previous owner, an expert and scholar in Thai sculpture, believed that this was from the far north of Thailand near the ancient kingdom of Fang- he believed it could be as early as 15th century. Wonderful! 6.25 inches tall.
