Item id: 142

Very unusual Lead/Bronze Laos Buddha. It is a very good size at 15 and 1/2 inches high by close to 12 inches wide by 7 inches deep. It weighs over 50 pounds (with no clay core!). The dimensions don't fully convey the mass of this one, as he is so broad and deep. I put a 4 inch Buddha in one photo to give a sense of his large size. While he has a folk quality, the sculpting (and the casting) are remarkably sophisticated. The patina is outstanding, with traces of lacquer and gilding. Look at the photos: they convey the wonder of this piece far more than any words could do.
