Item id: 1471

A true beauty- an extremely fine 15th century Thai Buddha- probably in Kamphen Phet style, which is a special late Sukothai style. This type is more masculine, with a broader chest and wider shoulders, as well as a stronger face than the more common Sukothai style. He is extremely finely sculpted and cast, and is close to being a masterpiece. The base is missing, and he leas very slightly to one side. This is not uncommon on very early Thai bronze Buddhas from the Northern and central parts of Thailand. There were periods when bronze was scarce, and fine bronze bases were removed and re-used. The integrity of the body was important, but not the base. It affects the value of such a great Buddha little. He sits 8.75 inches tall by 6.25 inches wide at the knees. Would have been a good 12 inches with his base
